Frequently Asked Questions

Red, White & Blue Medicare Buttons for pinning on clothing.

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal program that offers health insurance to American citizens 65 and older, as well as other eligible individuals under 65 with a qualifying condition.   The program is often called Original Medicare and has two parts:  Part A & Part B

How do you qualify?

You must be 65 or older, younger then 65 with a qualifying disability or any age with a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease or ALS.  Legal residents must live and work in the U.S. for 10 years before applying for Medicare.

Is it free?

No, it is not free, and costs associated varies between people.  Original Medicare is Parts A & B.   Part A is the Hospital Coverage & Part B is your outpatient services and Doctors office visits.  Part D are the drug plans and pharmacies.  Some people qualify to have your part B paid for you.   Message or call me so we can discuss your individual needs.

When can I enroll?

Your initial Enrollment Period (IEP) a 7 month long time period; 3 months before your birth month, your birthday month and 3 months after.

What if I work past 65?

If you are still working and have "credible health coverage", then you won't need to do anything until you retire and stop working.   If you are working, but do not have health coverage, you will need to sign up for Parts A & B.  If you do not sign up for part B when you turn 65, you may have to pay a penalty when you actually do sign up.  This goes for spouses as well, if you have health insurance through your husband's workplace, you may not have to take Medicare at 65. Please call me, we can set up a time to go over your options and see which way is more cost effective for you.

What if I can't afford all that and I am scared?

Please call me right away,  239-345-2691 or message me on this website.  It is possible to get all or part of your part B premium paid for you (even if you don't qualify for Medicaid).   How do you know if you can receive extra help?  Call me or message me and I can go over your options with  you.

What is "Medigap"?

Medicare Supplement Insurance is sometimes called "Medigap" because it fills in the gaps and pays for things that Medicare doesn't pay for, like your deductibles, your doctors office visits, etc.   These are known as Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans.    Part C are the Advantage Plans and they work differently, but can give you more coverage and be very cost effective. They are private insurance companies that have a contract with our government. They are governed (and regulated) by the CMS (our government program that ensures these plans give equal to or better coverage then Original Medicare).

Is there a penalty if I do not sign up?

YES, there is a penalty on Part B & D if you do not sign up when first eligible or do not have "credible coverage." The penalty carries on with you for the rest of your life!  Please call me, I can go over your individual situation with you and keep you from the penalties.

Why Choose Custom Insurance Solutions?

Meet Kim Humphries

After moving to Florida in 2021, I saw there was a great need in this industry for a Medicare Agent who works for "the client" NOT an Insurance Company.  My promise is: Your Medicare, Your Way!  I will not sell you what you don't need or talk you into products you don't need.  I give free advice; I want you to understand what you have and I can show you what else is available if you are interested.  No pressure.
